Did you know that 100% of Gen Z spend 1 hour a day online and 46% spend over 10 hours? Social media has a great influence on them. Influencers affect their purchases and online media is their favorite platform for sharing news.
But Gen Z's online lifestyle isn’t linked to a specific platform. They use Facebook to stay informed and to occasionally share life stories. They use Instagram to share their daily lives through the story feature and to follow trends and lifestyles. Twitter is for venting on issues they don't want to share with the people around them. TikTok relieves stress and gives inspiration.
- A single platform may have multiple uses. 82% of Gen Z posters express their character, while 68% want to showcase their spontaneity and authenticity.
- In addition to using social media to create an identity or make cash, Gen Z use it for convenient living, such as with gadgets that can turn homes into Smart Homes controlled by voice or remotely.
Gen Z is willing to spend
- Influencers have a huge impact on Gen Z's willingness to pay – but so do their peers. The products that interest 73% of Gen Z have advanced technology and are also eco-friendly. Vintage-style secondhand items can be a first choice for Gen Z shoppers and 34% shop instore rather than online.
- But Gen Z have faith in the brands they grew up with. They believe in brands that increase their confidence in their daily lives. If a brand can win their hearts, they won't easily switch to another.
Gen Z's favorite dishes
- Gen Z care for their health. 80% eat health supplements and over 51% think sugar harms health. They want to cut down on sugary foods as much as possible. They also intend to cut down on meat, eating it just 1-2 times a week, also for the environment.
-A Tufts University Health & Nutrition Letter survey in the US found that Gen Z would pay more for healthy food. They seek foods and snacks and beverages that benefit the body – but they want credible scientific evidence too. Exaggerated advertising claims can lose credibility fast.
How Gen Z hang out
-Gen Z travel is also driven by influencers. Over 90% pick a destination from social media. Love for the environment also affects tourism: 56% of Gen Z travelers want eco-friendly vacations. Also, 60% are aware of how to travel without harming nature.
- Eco-friendly tourism matters for Gen Z but they also think travel should help communities and society, a factor for 68% of Gen Z.
