The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) found that 43% of Gen Z view travel as a key element of their lives in normal circumstances. They have a variety of destinations but prioritize tourism factors over location. What factors make Gen Z want to travel?

Courage trip
A Universum survey found that 33% of Gen Z admit they lack confidence in leadership amid the world’s crises, including COVID-19 and recession. They look to tourism to boost their abilities and confidence.

Research by the Center for Generational Kinetics also reveals that 40% of Gen Z use exercise apps and simulated walking apps, so want to do these activities in the real world.

The activities they seek would enhance agility and strength, such as trekking, extreme biking. But they also include socializing, such as going to clubs and restaurants, following music and local culture.

Getting guidance online
90% of Gen Z choose to travel based on what they see online from influencers and reviewers. 56% of Gen Z will post travel stories on social media, with only 38% of Gen Z seeking new and unique experiences.

They look for promotions and offers online, including the lowest cost travel. Gen Z is aware of their family’s financial situation and seek economical and cost-effective travel.

49% of Gen Z expect the metaverse to be an important factor in future travel. The metaverse will let us all be anyone and go anywhere, adding to our skills and confidence.

Environment and the community
56% of Gen Z plan their travel to be as green as possible both in accommodation and activities. 60% also seek the eco-friendliest way of traveling. 68% of Gen Z want their money to reach the community by using local products and services.
